Milestones

Milestones

By Amanda Tellmann on September 1, 2022

“Throughout the past 2 ½ years, we have had speech therapists, developmental therapists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists in our home.  While she only needed short term developmental and speech therapy, our physical therapist and occupational therapist have been here every week for the past 2 ½ years. They have become an instrumental part of our journey, and truly, a part of our family.”

Stepping Into Early Intervention

Stepping Into Early Intervention

By Nick Hall on April 18, 2019

By Kristina Mulligan When first introducing solid foods to a baby, it is expected that there will be hilarious, camera-worthy moments of spitting and silly faces, maybe a mess to clean up. When first trying purees with our son, there were tears and gagging, screaming and hyperventilating. As a new mom, I didn’t know what […]

What Is Early Intervention for Preemies?

By Graham's Foundation on January 17, 2018

Almost anyone who has a preemie has heard of Early Intervention (EI), at least in passing. Some NICUs are really fantastic about providing parents with information about resources available to parents of preemies. Others don’t provide moms and dads with as much information, but will make basic suggestions about therapies, services, and more for preemies. […]

Working around a preemie

By Featured Parent on August 6, 2015

Today’s guest author, Missie, can be followed on her personal blog. Should I work full time, doing a job I love or should I stay home and care for my high-needs preemie, whom I love even more? I don’t know what the right answer is to this question. I can tell you it’s one I’ve […]

The Importance of Speaking Up

The Importance of Speaking Up

By Emily Raymond on January 23, 2015

My 32-week preemie is now a full-fledged toddler, walking about and getting into mischief. He throws all the books from their shelves, dumps the toys from their buckets, and has a habit of running away with freshly folded laundry. He does a lot of the typical toddler things, but he stands out among his peers. […]

Intervening Early with Early Intervention

Intervening Early with Early Intervention

By Emily Raymond on July 18, 2014

Preemies are at a higher risk for developmental delays than full-term babies. Because of this, every parent of a preemie should know their child’s current capabilities and how they stack up against the average (you can check out developmental milestones here: http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html). My three preemies have all been involved in the Early Intervention program (link: […]
